96. Temptations are Trials

Acts 20:19 - "Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:"

Galatians 4:14 - "And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus."

Hebrews 2:18 - "For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted."

Hebrews 4:15 - "For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin."

1 Peter 1:6,7 - "Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:"

James 1:2,3,12 - "My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him."

God tempts us (i.e. tries us):

Genesis 22:1 - "And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am."

Hebrews 11:17 - "By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son."

But He never tempts us with evil:

James 1:13,14 - "Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed."
